Video Production Agency vs In-House Team: What’s Best for Your Business?
This question comes up a lot from businesses producing enough video that they start wondering if it makes more sense to bring the work in house. I don't think there's one right answer, but there are a few things worth thinking through.
If you're producing a high volume of content on a regular basis, an in-house team can make sense. Having someone on staff who knows your brand well, and who's available whenever you need them, has real value. Over time, if the volume is there, it can even end up cheaper than hiring outside help for every project.
That said, in-house teams come with costs that aren't always obvious at first. Equipment, software, and training all add up, and it's fair to ask whether one or two people can really cover every role a production needs. Camera, audio, lighting, and editing is a lot to ask of just a person or two, especially once a project gets more complex than a quick internal update.
An agency brings a level of depth that's hard to match in house. You're not relying on one or two people, you're relying on a full team, along with equipment and experience built up over years, or in our case, decades. We've been doing this for 75 years, and I think that shows in how we handle a production. A lot of the problems a newer team is still figuring out, we've already worked through.
I'd also add that an agency brings an outside perspective. Someone who isn't inside your company every day can often see what actually needs to be said more clearly than someone who's close to it. That's easy to overlook until you actually see it play out on a project.
I've seen a lot of businesses land somewhere in the middle, using an in-house team for quick, everyday content and bringing in an agency for anything bigger. If you're trying to figure out where that line should be for your business, reach out and we'd be glad to help you think it through.
